To be fair, the low- to average-priced Swiss watches (Omega, Tag, bunch of others) use pretty much the same movements from ETA and Valjoux - just put in different cases. Only the truly upscale watches in the ranks of Patek, Vacheron, A.Lange etc. have their own in-house unique movements/complications performed by renowned masters. So, average Swiss watch "commoditization" is slowly taking place, and theoretically non-Swiss brands can easily use the Swiss movements, but ETA/Valjoux do not go for that in order to preserve the perceived value of the Swiss watches :) So, a little of De Beers strategy here :)

I also check it on the cell phone, the computer or the clock in the car. A watch isn't necessary. An expensive watch (or other expensive jewelry) is a waste (for me, I mean, even if I had tons of money) when there are paintings and furniture I want but do not own.

And nobody says that's bad or anything, different people like different things, it's just relative value and of things should be measured and understood adequately :) And when someone says something is cool when I think it's not, I do have a right to express my opinion, don't I? :) Not sure what the problem is here :) This is a peaceful topic, nobody is trying to offend anyone, so no need to be defensive.

Of course you do. I have no problem with what you what you wrote, didn't find it offensive in any way. I'm just trying to avoid working on something and thought this was a nice, stressless topic in which to participate.

It shouldn't bug me what Alex thinks. But it did. I had a special bond with my watch. That bond has been broken. I'll never look at this cheap ass watch the same way again. I loved my watch. and now....it's just sitting on my wrist....looking....cheap. laughing

Time to get a new watch then... Just think, Alex's opinion is just an opinion; however, it is likely that others share that opinion. So when you walk into a bar with your fancy shoes and you walk up to a girl, there's a certain percent chance (probability) that this girl will share Alex's opinion and immediately discard you as a cheap-ass middle class southerner. Therefore, it is my recommendation that you purchase a watch like Patek Phillipe or Breitling, at which point you virtually eliminate the possibility of anyone casting that judgment upon you.

"Look at my new watch," says a New Russian to his colleague. "I bought it for 500 dollars in the store over there." "You got yourself conned," says the other. "You could have paid twice as much for the same one just across the street!" I love my watch. I'm not interested in wasting money on a more expensive watch. I felt guilty buying this one. The shoes? God they are nice. I love them too. More guilt...

James, you love your watch and shoes, and that's what matters, don't let anyone break that bond, especially the mean Russians who can't wait to bash a decent American soul :) So, peace, whatever helps you find your inner state of happiness :) I'll keep having my Timex nightmares and fight my demons :)

This forum really sucks when people (not ladies, Egor, I think you got too much into the lupo's fiance role) settle down :) Things are interesting when there is something to read - settling down means death to the forum :) We want people arguing and having fun, unless someone takes all this too seriously - but's that's a personal problem :)

I thought you wanted peace? Yeah, those shoes. Love 'em. Let me guess - you know a lot about shoes too? laughing

James, you missed your attack a little, probably because you rushed to say something and didn't even read the recent posts - first, I was not the one criticizing your shoes (I said everyone chill out and be happy), second, my previous post was not directed at you and thus did not require your response, third - I already said I don't know anything about shoes (yet) :) What I was saying - the only thing - is that I enjoy people actually saying something and arguing (in a civilized manner) on the forum. So, an intelligent and cunning person as you are, go back, read carefully, and come back with a more sensible response :)

Well you are right about one thing...I got my wires crossed. It was 412 stirring up trouble. Who cares what 412 thinks....

Alex, you suddenly reappeared on the forum, with lots of posts.. What's new these days? Are you a stay-at-home dad now?
