Hehe, just love it :) In the big picture of things nobody cares what anyone thinks :) I am wasting a lot of time in the last few days here, the whole forum thing goes in waves for me for several years now. I am in now, but will lose interest again soon, I think. James, you keep up the good work here dude.

I agree with Alex. This forum is entertaining only when there's fierce arguments and wars :) I wish we had more of that...really, that was the only good thing about the political discussions - not the discussions themselves, but the insults and battles that went along with them...

I tried. "Ladies" bothered no one, but "settle down" became a discussion.

what's brand of watch you wear right now?
thank you, guys for a few good laughs I got reading this thread(couldn't do it all in order, but just bits and pieces)
Russians are always snoby.... even when we are dumb, simple, and/or unpretentious(sp?).... we are just snoby about different "things"/aspects/categories of life's treasures
IMHO undoubtfully(sp?)
next week I'm going to a party. Most my girlfriends have already gone to Cashe/Guess/Escada etc. to get their stunning 200$$ outfits.
I think I'm going to wear 15 $ strapless beach dress I got in Marshall's a while ago.... no because I don't have extra 200 bucks for a dress, but because , I think it's neater way to say "F**K YOU"...not to mention the thrill of flashing perfect shoulder/neck deal
who is snobier now?

Ribelk, a pretty standard, expected response. Not all Russians are "snoby", ribelk, what you are referring to is a common description of the "new russians" with their poor taste, mostly an unfortunate result of Soviet poverty and total lack of any variety and cultural/social creativity - as time goes by and the Soviet-era mindset fades away, the new generations of Russians will be no different than young people in developed countries, being presented with same openness to various trends and sophistication.
Ribelk, if the purpose of the $15 dress is to say F@CK YOU, why even bother coming to the party? Not sure what this rebellious gesture would prove - pretty much nothing other than people seeing the cheap dress. Do you think anyone will actually guess you have come up with this brilliant plan to just say F@CK YOU, or even if someone gets the point it will be even remotely fascinating or interesting to anyone? Just mental issues, I'd say. So that's that.
Have you seen the movie "Devil wears Prada"? I know, I know - stupid Hollywood etc., how can a Russian man even talk about it (my wife was watching it, so did I, and actually enjoyed the brilliant performance by Meryl Streep). So I'll lose some points here, BUT there was a pretty cool moment in the movie when this young girl came into the fashion editor's office for the secretary interview and when the editor (Streep) said she looked like shit (different wording of course), the girl proudly said she didn't really care about fashion and such superfluous things. Well, there was a pretty deep monologue by Streep then to the effect that whatever shapeless sweater that girl was wearing was actually inevitably a derivative of a certain fashion trend at some point in time. Point is - one may wear a 15$ dress or whatever and be proud of not being "snoby" without realizing that whatever she is wearing has been designed at some point by someone and is a consequence of one or another fashion trend. No material things that are worn, driven, eaten or interacted with exists independent of the "superfluous" fashions and trends - they are the results of those, albeit tasteless and generic.
What this made me think about was that such arrogance about "not caring about [insert fashion,cars,food,watches,etc.etc.]" is nothing more than ignorance, really, and lack of interest, taste, and narrow thinking :) In that 15$ dress you ARE going to wear the result/influence of some designer, inevitably. So, in fact, you won't be proving anything other than probably poor taste and arrogance, but hey, you said Russian's are "snoby", so that is in fact a form of snobism, too ;)

KGB, you are one tireless fighter for everything! :) Man I am just relaxing, drinking wine and generally feeling well, why the hell can't I talk about whatever comes to my mind and what I may enjoy that moment :) Come on we'll be dead (or seriously retarded) anyway in, like, 30-40 years, so who cares, it's all useless babbling anyway.
And that immigration reform - the worst POS ever, unbelievable what those idiots came up with. I have a lot to say about it, but WON'T do it here in this serene topic about beautiful things!!! :))
