I would not suggest anything near that ZIP code.  It's not a safe area.  Depending on your budget and living preference, Atlantic Station or other areas in Midtown might work for you.  They're not too far, but I would not recommend the area if you have kids. They're not the safest in Atlanta.

Collier Rd (just North on 75) has a number of nice apartments that are safer.  Post Collier Hills, for example.

Further to the North is a neighborhood (city) of Smyrna.  A number of apartments can be found there at any price range.  Several people from this forum live there.

I don't know much about 30331.  It's about 15 minutes from downtown; about 20 minutes from Midtown.  Not far from Vinings (15 miles). 

If you have kids, Midtown/Downtown is a BAD idea.  If you are single (20's), making a good salary, Buckhead is good.  If you are a single ***, Midtown is good.  If you want to save money, and meet young 30-somethings, you might want to look at Vinings:

Why is it a bad idea if you have kids?

 My midtown (in Memphis) sounds like a cross between your midtown and your something Park area (not enough coffee to remember the name yet) from everything I've read and lots of people raise kids in my midtown.
