    Re: Nanny/Housekeeper required

Masha, I never mentioned that women don't earn more than $600 a month, or a week, or a pay period. All I said is that to pay somebody what the person placing the ad asked, it takes a half of the income of somebody say in middle management position. Let's say a middle manager earns 50K a year, that's roughly $24/hour. Roughly. There are 80 worked hours in a pay period, 160 hours a month. Again, roughly. $24*160=$3840. Let's assume a 22% tax rate, so the monthly pay is reduced to $2995. Then, there are 401K contributions. Let's say 10% a month (although many people contribute 15%). So that's another $300. So, what you now have left, roughly, is $2700. So, paying a nanny let's say $1300 (if you consider that adequate) a month means you are giving away half of your after-tax and after 401K earnings. I am not even factoring in the cost of health insurance premiums. Let's assume the husband carries the health insurance. Also do keep in mind that a woman needs to spend $$ to get to work, such as gasoline, wear and tear on the car, not to mention professional attire.

What I am trying to say that it only makes sense for a mother to go back to work full time if (either one of the reasons, or all of them):

     1. This is her CAREER.

    2. She has a high earning potential.

    3. The family will not survive without her income.

    4. She gets some sort of fullfillment from her job (saving the world etc...)

Otherwise, it makes no sense (at least to me) to go back to work.

As far as getting out of the house goes, a part-time nanny or a learning center where kids could go to for a couple hours a day should do the trick. Women can even get out and do some volunteer work for personal fulfillment, if that's what is necessary.

Masha, how many children do you have and what age? Do you have a nanny?

    Русалочка,
Мамы, которые работают не ради денег, а ради того, чтобы выбраться из 4х стен не ищут няню на полный день на 4-5 дней. Данное обьявление подразумевает, что родители отсутствуют в течение рабочего дня.

I absolutely agree that $1100 maybe reasonable depending upon what is your situation or inclination. If you really like kids or had some restriction e.g. cannot drive/don't own car, can only work certain hours or are a student and want some extra cash (sitting in security of home) then it is a perfect situation. Also, the person posting the AD has clearly stated that anything beyond 40 hours will be paid at 9 dollar an hour so this way you can add to your monthly salary. I think the person has been very fair in letting everyone know about what are the job responsibilities and what are they willing to pay for them - it is upto you to decide whether it is something that is acceptable to you. It is better than some employers I know who hire you at lower salary citing 1-3 responsibilties and then increase them later on. I also liked that she/he has stated very clearly that they expect nanny to do extra work only if there child is sleeping. So some days the nanny might just end up doing dishes or cleaning kitchen if they baby is fussy. I personally liked the honesty and fairness of the AD

I would disagree here. I have heard of people paying $1100 for a live in nanny or for the one that comes in the morning and leaves in the evening. Of course a nanny does not abandon an infant to load the dishwasher. Things around the house are to be done when the child is napping. I don't think it is that unusual. Also, in most cases it is $1100 tax free, so a job at Mc Donalds would bring in much less, not to mention the fact that you are on your feet all day at Mc Donalds, whereas a nanny does get to sit down or stretch on a couch even for a little while, with the child or not. A nanny can also watch TV when the baby is sleeping (or not), snack or chat on the phone. It is not a job to be compared to fast food slaving conditions. Yes, there is no health insurance, but most people earning $5 an hour at McDonalds can't afford to pay the premiums, so they don't have the insurance that's *availabale* to them. And they do drive their own cars to the establishment, too.

How do you think all mothers manage to do the same things the nanny is being asked to do without jeopardizing their kids? Stay at home moms do take care of one or more children, cook, clean, do laundry, and load the dishwasher.
