I subscribed to http://www.bestrussiantv.com/ few weeks ago. So far it worked great for watching Russian TV on computer. The service was down for several hours couple times, but overall it's pretty reliable. I am still trying to find a good way to get streaming working on TV without a computer, but this is a different topic.

    Russian TV over Internet

Try this out: www.rutelevision.com 16 channels and recordings. It works fine for me, without freezing. You can have 3 free days. I am watching already 5 days and it is still working for free

    Re: Russian TV over Internet

Just got TVRossiya but it has huge problems with buffering. Is it because it is broadcasting all the way from LA. It only works in the mornings after that i have either a freeze frame with sound or no sound with picture or nothing. Anyone had any luck get it to work in Atlanta?

    How is Overseatv in comparison?

Grandma came from Russia for 6 months and she wants her show. Direct TV shows only old shows.

    Thanks,

    Oskar

    Dasha,

Have you looked at www.corbina.tv?  Corbina has live and recorded Russian TV channels.  And it's free.

Do they have an archive? It seems like their selection is very small and I don't really see any archived programs of any substance (Dom2 i Nasha Russia menia kak-to ne privlekaiut).

    Comrades,

I have Comcast and very happy with the service and price, can we add Direct TV (russian and japanese channels) or that's impossible from technical point of view? (Sorry for dumb question :)

    Horoshaya tema Smile

Kostya, we are signed up for BestRussianTv.com - several months already. They have been great at first, then lately had some buffering and freezing issues, but just posted an anouncement that all those are fixed. Claimed that the issue had to do with their sattelite reception.

Overall we really like them - 10 days of archive, and 24+ channels. Of course only 2-3 are actually of any interest.

The way we hooked it up is using laptop to TV via S-Video or special cable that goes from S-Video out on PC to the regular Video In on TV (bought cables on the internet). Laptop is running on Wirless conenction, and quality is great - as long as they are not having any issues with buffering.

I have already considered setting up mini PC and Wireless Keyboard - have not done it just yet.

Dasha, actually we have Otpusk Za Svoy Schyot, and my wife found it on http://multiki.arjlover.net/ - tam escho mnogo raznih starih fil'mov i mul'tikov est', horoshiy arhiv. Mi tam mnogo nakachali. Just FYI.

Voobsche ochen' topik polezniy - ochen' mnogo linkov podcherpnul.

Shev, pasiba!!! :)

It's possible, but you're not really adding it to Comcast.  You are subscribing to DirecTV satellite service in addition to Comcast.  Most TVs will allow you to hook-up multiple receivers at once.  On DirecTV you can just order Russian and Japanese Packages and not the basic service, but to get the most promotional offers (like free installation, free equipment, free HD-DVR, etc.) you might consider subscribing to basic packae + international channels for 1 or 2 years.  It might be cheaper overall.

Check out TV link on the top of the page to see what Russian channels are available from DirecTV.
