My name is Emma Sheridan and I am doing some research for a major broadcaster in the UK at the moment. I stumbled across this site and I'm hoping there might be some members on here that can help me shed some light on this project!! Let me explain a bit about the documentary...

At the moment I am working on the development of a programme looking at women increasingly assuming roles more traditionally associated with men, and in this specific case looking at women seeking foreign men for marriage.

We are hoping to produce a documentary that looks at women turning the traditional roles of seeking foreign partners on their heads, and getting online or otherwise to find their future husbands outside of the their home country. On the internet Russia and the Ukraine have almost become synonymous with marital introduction agency websites and it seems that brides from every corner of the globe are seeking western men on the internet. But what we have been interested in finding are western women seeking foreign husbands. According to various blogs and international dating sites there seem to be a growing number of marriage-hungry women becoming disillusioned with the western dating game and looking for happiness further away from home, however there don't seem to be any specific sites offering western women the chance to search for and meet a foreign husband.

We are extremely keen to discover whether any existing couples are out there, where the women have actively sought a foreign (Russian/Ukrainian) husband and asked him to relocate to their home.

I wondered whether anyone out there is aware of any such couples who are co-habiting/married/divorced. I would love to talk to anyone(confidentially of course) willing to help!

You can't reverse the gender roles and have a Strong Woman and, well, a 'weakened' man, and expect things to work.

It flies in the face of 5,000 years of biological programming.

Women like to be taken.  They liked to feel protected. 

It's much better to have a German Man and a French woman (ohhhh....that's the best)

or a Russian Man and an Italian woman.

ps:  you should do a story on American women dating foreign men that marry them and then murder them for their money after getting US citizenship, so they can then import their families from Eastern Europe and live Big.  That would be a fascinating story.

I have known quite a few women in the US who absolutely loved the idea of being with a "Russian man." In fact, they dated several guys from FSU countries, and one of the girls married a Ukrainian guy and moved to Ukraine. She is raising her child in a Russian/Ukrainian culture and she loves it. I am not sure where this fascination with the Russian men comes from. Perhaps, it is similar to JB's fascination with Russian women: accent, exotic, different family values, passion, craziness, etc. However, guys are much better off in this situation than women. I don't know what the exact ratio of men to women is in Russia today, but men are becoming extinct - a true "defitsit." So, if there is a WWIII, it will be caused by sexually frustrated and angered Russian women! Stop stealing our men, Western b*tches!!!

I did not mean to offend you, 412. If I did, I apologize. I know three women from my city. One managed to get here through marriage. Another got ditched after her american boyfriend realized she is pregnant. I helped third to place ads on dating websites here. Two of three times the motivation was pure financial. Nothing really changed in last five million years.

I do not disagree about golddiggers around. Because of the living quality during USSR and after anything above $500 a month is a gold. I can easily imagine Russian wives mass migration back to Russia when income level there get close to US and Europe.

Emma, welcome to the forum.

Good luck with your research, although I'm not sure how much use you can actually derive from this forum with all the rubbish that fills up topics quicker than people manage to read through it all. There are at least a few couples on here of the kind you're looking for, I know that much. Hopefully, they'll see this and will be able to help you out.

Pardon to intrude on your conversation, but umm... double standard much? I think you use as many generalizations as anyone else on here, if not more. They just tend to lean in the opposite direction.
