    Drivers Education

I have been teaching my wife to drive, and yes it is tough, not just teaching but finding the time.

Yes I have enough time to spend with my wife, the issue is finding a spot to teach her in without putting anyone else in danger. So it is tough out here in crowded California.

So I have been thinking of getting her into a Drivers Education class for behind the wheel training.(BTW) When we get to Alpharetta.

Even more so after finding out that Georgia has some law that states every person who is looking to get a license has to pass a 40 hour BTW training.  See here for example: http://www.taggartsdrivingschool.com/adultindex.htm

So it looks like she needs to go through that training anyway.

Although, her is a something you don't read about everyday.
Before she came to America, she actually took a Drivers course in Ukraine and received her license.  Now knowing how she drives I have no idea who gave her this license. LOL  Don't tell her I said that.   Anyway, there is no way I would put her behind the wheel right now without more "proper" training.  So technically she has a valid license, so I was wondering if this qualifies here so that she does not need the 40 mandatory hours.  Therefore she can train with me or with someone else.

So because of the law, the prices for Drivers ed are high, I am not trying to be cheap, just economical. By the way, its her that does not want to pay these high prices.

So anyone here know of places to take Drivers ed or  do this themselves?

     Thanks!
    TR.

I was teaching my wife on parking lots. Then roads. She started driving on highways herself. I am not sure we spent 40 hours before she passed driving test.

    Re: Drivers Education

So I am assuming that you did not have to provide some certificate proving she did 40+ hours of driving/training.

I have not called any drivers ed schools, but they all list this GA law, so it makes me wonder if I go to the DMV that they will ask her where her certifications are etc...

    Re: Drivers Education

That question never been asked. They want to make sure you are

    1) a GA resident living in the state for at least one month. You need to show them banking statement and/or utility bill with GA address and your name
    2) If you already have a driver license they will take it and exchange to a GA license. From what we've been told it's a law. Must be a new one.

As I remember it was in a "paper work". They don't ask for certificates or any other proof, you will just sign something.

    Re: Drivers Education

You can get a drivers permit, and accrue 40 hours with that, but there is no certification of any sort.
If her English is good, Taggart's may not be a bad idea.  If they manage to teach teens, then it should be a breeze with an adult.

    Re: Drivers Education

First, I think the 40 hour requirement is only for beginning drivers under 17 or someone who is applying for a license for the first time ever anywhere.

Second, it's good to find out that another man's Ukrainian wife is a terrible driver also.   My Natasha is absolutely, without a doubt, a danger to most other drivers on the road.   The whole idea of "planning your next turn"  or thinking in advance about what your gonna do next is totally out of the question.     She hasn't had an accident yet, and of course I hope she doesn't, but.....  all the accidents have been avoided only because of DEFENSIVE moves by the other cars around her.   I hope she gets better.Surprise

i spent about 6 hours on the road and got the license in the driving school in MAiretta if i remember correctly.. but it's better to have some additional lessons with instructor if she catches slowly. and they give a discount for an insurance
