    Sappho:
    _Sergey_:

    Sleep

... and Sergey is bored out of his mind. James Bond has just returned from his first fishing trip. He has caught a few "karasi" from an ice-hole on a mighty Siberian river. And so they set out to cook their own supper...

I don't think this forum is ready for gay porn just yet... :)

From a steamy Atlanta moment with Sappho, to trout fishing on the Oka, to Brokeback Russian Mountain....  How did I fall so far???

At least sergey can manage my money better than I can.  And my Russian beef strogonaff is delicious!

Re: Western women and husbands from FSU countries

    Sappho:
I have known quite a few women in the US who absolutely loved the idea of being with a "Russian man." In fact, they dated several guys from FSU countries, and one of the girls married a Ukrainian guy and moved to Ukraine. She is raising her child in a Russian/Ukrainian culture and she loves it. I am not sure where this fascination with the Russian men comes from. Perhaps, it is similar to JB's fascination with Russian women: accent, exotic, different family values, passion, craziness, etc. However, guys are much better off in this situation than women. I don't know what the exact ratio of men to women is in Russia today, but men are becoming extinct - a true "defitsit." So, if there is a WWIII, it will be caused by sexually frustrated and angered Russian women! Stop stealing our men, Western b*tches!!! Super Angry Stick out tongue

More info than you probably want, but here's my explanation as best as I can describe it:

I grew up during the Cold War, and like many Americans who were around during that time and cognizant of things going on in the world, I was very aware of Russia. There was always tension and a certain amount of fear whenever someone spoke of Russia, and it felt like we were constantly teetering on the edge of nuclear annihilation. In school, it was not outright said, but certainly implied that Russia was a dark enigma, something impossible for Americans to ever comprehend or trust, and absolutely a force to be considered dangerous.

I have no doubt Russian children were taught much the same in regard to America, but as a kid I couldn't have understood that, and I was definitely afraid of Russians. Anyway, about the time I hit eighteen, I became interested in trying to understand what all the animosity was about (I'm sure to some degree that was a subconscious effort to lessen the fear), and made some attempts to decipher the mystery. Of course, the Cold War ended eventually, but my curiosity never really waned, though I kind of gave up the search because I only had outdated and biased books to reference in those days. Now there is the Internet, and because of it, I resumed satisfying my curiosity about all-things Russia a few years ago. My interest in this subject has only increased the deeper I have dug, and along the way I have discovered an appreciation and respect for Russians, as well as the realization I think many Russian men are hot. Maybe there is a subconscious element of breaking old taboos in the attraction, but in general I find their attitude fascinating, and think they are purty. Also, the exotic factor is applicable here, too.

So, that's the long, and really, oversimplified, version of how I arrived here, for what it's worth. It's funny, I think, to begin with anxiety and a simple need to comprehend, then wind up here a couple of decades later looking for a hottie. At any rate, I guess I will just have to be considered a Western b*tch, Sappho, though that would only be true in this case if some Russian man were to find me equally exotic and interesting. Smile Wink

BTW, I hope none of this is taken the wrong way or makes me seem unforgivably weird, I just want to give my honest perspective on why I - as a Western female - think Russian men are like catnip, and how I found this particular attraction of mine.

Oh, common!!!  We were living under impression of constant encroachment of the NATO headed by the US on our territory!  Of course that was true.  And of course little has changed.

Soviet propaganda was not about people, it was about Governments and aliances. NATO - bad, people in Europe - good.

Imperialists in America - bad, ordinary people - good .

That is the main distinction between Soviet and US propaganda.

Those posters by Egor only confirm that.

hmm.. I think I agree.  Don't remember anything bad about American people, even the opposite - americans were percieved as exploited..  I do not know enough abt American propaganda to compare..

When I was a child, those teaching about the Soviet Union left me thinking that all the people were poor, starving, miserable and downtrodden... no joy in your lives whatsoever... and that women (especially older women) spent their days waiting in 12 hour bread lines in the freezing cold while the men were being brainwashed and trained to invade us at any moment... a la Red Dawn style.  And that, somehow, in the midst of all that misery and military training, all Russians under the age of 30 would sell their souls for a pair of western designer jeans.
